Boy Blues Bar is a live music venue hidden away in the night markets – see map below. I have been there a couple of times and intend to make it a regular haunt, particularly on Mondays when they have a jam session. The last time I went there was with my brother and sister-in-law and we were almost the only people there. It is easy to sit in the front row and fully experience Boy’s unique personality. If you every want to see a guy who enjoys what he does and shows it come and see Boy play.

The night markets are well worth an evening's explore.

I don’t have the knowledge to tell you the background of Boy so have borrowed the words below from James 747 in Trip Advisor. Thanks James:

“The lead guitarist and vocalist “Boy” (younger cousin of the legendary Thai blues musician “Took”) has been referred to as an amazing reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix/Eric Clapton. Having seen Hendrix live in the late 60s, I can tell you that Boy’s rendition of “Little Wing” and “All Along the Watch Tower” are comparable to the great Jimi and just as good or better than versions by Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jeff Beck and other Hendrix successors.

Tucked up a stairway in the eaves of the Kaight Market section of the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar in an indoor/outdoor loft space, Boy Blues Bar is run by Boy and Claire, an English singer from Kent who is super nice and friendly. Claire sometimes joins the band with her unique voice and stage presence, which is a special treat. The first set is played by rotating bands, followed by fabulous blues from “Boy Blues Band.” Monday night is jam night, when local musicians add saxes, trumpets, and guest singers to the mix. Highly recommended. Great guitarist, fabulous feeling for the blues, my favourite place in all of S.E. Asia to chill out and listen to live music”

I fully support everything James says. Absolutely worth a visit.

I recorded a couple of videos when I was there and these can be viewed below:

The drummer here was an American who happened to be around on the night. Did a good job too.

Boy so obviously loves what he does. He constantly plays up to the audience.

We have since been here on a Monday, which is their jam night. A mix of farangs put their name on a list to either play solo of mix it with Boy and his crew. An excellent night out.

Guest musician. Most of them were of a high standard.
