I came across this place last year but have only now got around to including it in the blog. I was unsure whether to add it to “Shorties” or “Secrets”. It could have been either because this temple is located on the edge of Chiang Mai, out where we live, and is definitely off the tourist trail. It’s a bit graphic on many levels – not for the prudish or squeamish.
I have always had the impression of Buddhism as being pretty benign and harmless, much more so than some more traditional religions where there are still some aspects remaining today from the days when scaring the peasants into handing over more money was a good living for some.
This temple called Wat Mae Kaet, hidden away off a small back road in San Sai will change your view of gentle Buddhism. I am not sure if the theme of this temple would sit well with Buddha himself but as we know man’s ability to alter the pure truth of all religions is……well the basis of all religion!

I wondered where the grim reaper had got to. Got a voluntary redundancy from the public service and ended up in Chiang Mai evidently. Looking a little worse for wear. Retirement does that to you after a while.

OK. I get it. Alcohol is bad for you and also causes you to lose your inhibitions by the look of this lady – not all bad news! Sorry.

Who let the demons out of the cupboard. Not happy about being shut up for so long either by the look of this guy.

Not sure what this bloke is up to but it is no good you can be sure. I am sure that book isn’t all fun and joy. The temple is obviously open at night, which would be a nice little outing for the family.

Now that’s going to sting. Not sure what these guys have done wrong. I wish I could get an English guide book for this place to make sense of what looks like the senseless.

A bit graphic. Not a good day at the office. Mind you with a head like that on that body, well the head that used to be on that body, I am thinking this was a confused person even on a good day.
Now this guy below has obviously upset the lady because she is looking and acting definitely p****d off. A John and Lorena Bobbett moment, remember them? Not sure which of Buddha’s teaching this one relates to but someone can bring me up to speed in the comments! The motto in my mind is NEVER upset a Thai woman.

Now this looks a lot better but it maybe it’s the prelude leading up to the previous photo! A scene that will get the questions flowing from the little ones.

I am guessing that this is what happens if you live a good life. I for one am certainly behaving myself from now on – well mostly.

Thanks for dropping in – lunch anyone?
Sick I think. Too much gore! I will not be visiting this place. Yuk!
Hey Tony how bizzare we have been to Chang mai and never knew about this place. If we ever go again it will be on our list of what to see. We are all good.
Cheers
